/kor/ productions is delighted to announce the first production in its hybrid 2021-22 season, PRIDE.  This digital event features world premieres of new works by contemporary classical composer, Felix Jarrar, streaming straight to our audiences’ homescreens this June 24th.

The traditional art song salon has undergone a dramatic metamorphosis with /kor/ productions’ newest
upcoming presentation.To create an unforgettable evening of song, /kor/ enlisted the help of award-winning composer FelixJarrar. Recently featured in Broadway for his latest box-office-smash with director Bea Goodwin,
Mother Goose, Jarrar’s enigmatic and captivating melodies made him an easy choice for Moffitt’s collaborative
vision. Known for his lush harmonies and soaring vocal lines, Jarrar has quickly become one of the most-sought-after young composers in the operatic world. His music manages to strike a delicate balance between neoclassical
traditions and cheeky undertones, creating an evening of exciting experimentation for audiences. The result is an
endearing sort of ‘musical irreverence’, as reviewed by OperaWire.


With the decimating impact of Covid-19 on the entertainment industry, Jarrar emerges from quarantine with an entirely new musical experience. In PRIDE, Jarrar begins experimenting with the darker side of musicality. His song cycles hover between plush, expanding vocal lines and the shadowy, somber undertones the singers express. PRIDE features less outright humor and more vulnerability, as well as a rare insight into the composer’s inner musings. Isolation, longing for a partner’s presence and the sheer joy of reuniting are interspersed with tender, intimate reflections of love... and how it changes those who encounter it.

Felix Jarrar is a composer and pianist with “(strong) dramatic instincts” (Lewis Spratlan, 2000 Pulitzer Prizewinner in Music). His works have been praised as “experimental and beautifully composed” (Broadway World) with “lush and memorable melodies” (Operawire). His list of accomplishments includes performances at diverse venues such as Symphony Space, (le) poisson rouge, Feinstein's/54 below, the BAM! Fisher Hillman Studio, Roulette Intermedium, and Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. His works have been performed internationally by artists from the Metropolitan Opera, the Atlantic Music Festival Orchestra, and the duo Unassisted Fold.

Hailed by LA Weekly as a “force of nature”, soprano and Fat Politics artist-activist Tracy Cox is a performer whose talent has been recognized across the industry, garnering her a Sullivan Foundation Award, the Birgit Nilsson Prize at Operalia, the Kirsten Flagstad Award from the George London Foundation, a Sarah Tucker Study Grant, and the top prize from the Marilyn Horne Song Competition. She has sung with orchestras around the world, including the MÁV Symphony of Budapest, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony, Los Angeles Opera, and at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center in Moscow.
